About U Students like Good Food- Who the Food are we?

Mission:
To empower students to sustainably unite our community around good food :.

Who are we?

We are students exploring, enjoying, and changing the food system at the U of M and surrounding area. Our goal is to have a voice in that food system as we acknowledge food and food systems not only affect our personal health, but also affect the environment, society and local economy. We aim to work together and within our community to bring light to the effect our food choices have on resources, jobs, land and communities in the Minneapolis/Metro Area and how we can make good food choices accessible and affordable for students.

What do we do?
    • Real Food Challenge

U Students Like Good Food is working with Real Food Challenge to challenge the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities to make 20% of all food purchasing REAL. What is REAL FOOD?  Food that is Local, Fair, Sustainable, and Humane. Real Food Challenge is a national network of students and farmer, worker, and organizer allies working to invest in Real Food and develop amazing student leaders. By challenging individual campuses to purchase a greater percentage of Real Food we encourage system-wide change and support an environment that allows consumers a voice and role in the food system. Working with RFC has also helped our group connect with faculty/management and continue the important conversation about where our food comes from and what we can do to see it improve.

    • Spoon & Cherry
If you’re tired of eating the same old grub on campus, we’re here to help! On our blog, Spoon & Cherry, we give advice on where to get delicious and local food in the Twin Cities area. When reviewing various restaurants and stores, we include factors such as quality, price, atmosphere, a menu’s dietary accommodations, etc—anything that may interest a college student who’s looking for the perfect place to grab bite to eat. No matter if the occasion is a study break, a casual outing with friends or a romantic first date, come check us out!

    • Project Cook

So what is Project Cook all about?

Good Food = Good Life.

We like cooking.
We want to do it more often.
And we want you to join us.”

It’s all about getting our generation in the kitchen cooking our time tested favorites and learning new ones to indulge in. The Project Cook idea was created by a Public Health student at the U. This was her vision. U Students Like Good Food was the first organized group to take this vision on and make it our own. Every month we have a relaxed gathering hosted by one of our very own student leaders where cook a delicious potluck meal together centered around a food theme (e.g. peppers, mushrooms). This is a great way to get started in the group because it’s all about eating GOOD food and hanging out in GOOD company. Everyone’s invited so stay tuned on our email list, and we hope to see you there!
